Synopsis[]
Raf admits to her diary that she is confused by Sulfus. Since the start of the year, he'd been avoiding her and even wrote on his laptop that he likes someone else. But when they locked eyes the other day, he seemed to be the same guy she was in love with last year. In Sulfus's dorm, his laments about Raf and her captive mother are cut off by Gas. The devil boy is eager to rush to class where they'll be in an all day history lecture, though he's excited only because he wants to sleep through the while thing.
In the Angel class, Miki is not looking forward to the five hour history lesson, less so with Dolce's implications they'll be told a five-hour story. Omnia arrives and tells them what their lesson will be about: the VETO, the only eternal law that binds both angels and devils. Gnosis begins the same story over on his side and while Gas is settling in for his nap, he perks up as Gnosis declares the story dictates a great war. Unfortunately for him, his Spy Bell starts ringing and he must ditch the lecture to go to his charge. Sulfus's offer to take notes for him catches the whole class off-guard and the devil quickly claims it to have been just a joke. They continue with the story.
The War of a Thousand Centuries, begun in the early mists of time, was when angels and devils fought for the simple reason that good and evil would never agree. At the heads of the Diabolic and Angelic armies were a general, the most recent having been Kubral and Cassidy, the current headmasters. The two faced one another on the battlefield, but were so evenly matched, they could never make a decisive victory, leaving the war at a deadlock. And this was a problem because as good and evil fought, there was no one taking care of the humans.
The classes are paused for recess, with promises made that they will continue the lesson later.
Miki arrives to the home of her human, Caterina, where she's met by Gas. The two bicker as they enter the home and find their human asleep while her family prepares for their vacation. Gas is confused by Caterina having two mothers and two fathers, so Miki must explain that her parents divorced and remarried, giving her a very large family. Caterina's little brother Milo enters her room and crawls into bed with her, drifting off as well.
Confused on how this is a problem, the angel and devil snoop around and see the issue: the family was in such a rush, they took off in the car and left their two children behind!
The History lesson is ready to continue with Dolce asking how the war ever ended with the generals being so well matched. Omnia provides the answer.
Both the good and evil sides understood that the war would end after a thousand centuries when the Comet of Fate came by. The Comet is a symbol of destiny and every time it comes around, it signals a change in the history of the universe. So if the comet passed during the war, whichever side had won at the time would be declared the victor while the other would vanish from existence. The devil students worry at the idea that if they had disappeared, the angels would have made the world a totally good place.
Caterina finally wakes up and, rousing Milo, ponders at how silent their house is. They get a call from their parents admitting they didn’t notice their absence until boarding their plane. Caterina is furious and, since her parents won't be back until tomorrow, she takes her little brother out to do whatever they want. Gas is excited about the mischief they might get up to and when Miki protests, he challenges her. Just like with Urie and Cabiria, they find that the Challenge Room has chosen their battle for them: Ghostville.
