The castle of Gorth is a location introduced in the second season of Angel's Friends.

Overview[]

The castle was the residence of Tristolfo VII, also known as the Duke of Gorth. According to the legend, Tristolfo VII was a charming, well-dressed gentleman whom no woman could resist, but he was also incredibly jealous. The woman he married would fall for his charms but only found out about his jealous nature after their marriage. The Duke would then lock his bride inside the castle and forbid anyone from seeing her, including her friends. Heavily guarded and alone, his bride would die of a broken heart, and the Duke consoled himself by marrying another woman who would meet the same fate as the last. The Duke married a total of six women, all of whom died with their ghosts trapped inside the castle.

The castle resembles a typical medieval concentric castle made of stone. It has a total of five towers and two walls. The highest point is the keep (which is several stories high), with the other adjacent buildings to its right. The castle is surrounded by a dense forest and there are a few trees within the castle walls. A wide dirt path leads to the gates of the castle.

Series[]

Season 2[]

The castle of Gorth is first mentioned in the episode The Gorth Castle - Part 1. The terrestrial students of the Golden School are planning a trip to the historical castle and Cassidy and Kubral plan to use the trip as an opportunity for Sulfus' Clone clone to kiss Dolce in front of Raf. The clone doubts he'll be able to get Dolce alone to seduce her, but Kubral assures him that they have planned a diversion to distract the everlasting ones. Kubral gives Basilisco the knowledge of the entire layout of the castle to help Sulfus' clone.

Outside of the Golden School, the terrestrials are waiting to get on the bus that will take them on the trip. William expresses his excitement to see the castle. Meanwhile, Cassidy and Kubral visit the castle before the students arrive and enter the secret Crypt. There they find the skeleton remains of the Duke of Gorth, which Cassidy rises from the dead using her powers. They tell the Duke that a group of terrestrials and everlasting ones are approaching and come to free his wives from the castle.

In the meantime, Urie asks professor Omnia to talk about Tristolfo VII and his castle, but she hesitates. Instead, professor Gnosis interjects and tells the legend of the castle's curse. Gnosis explains that the Duke of Gorth was a jealous husband who confined his wives to the castle and prohibited any visitors. Each of his wives died of loneliness and a broken heart and their spirits became trapped behind the walls of the castle.

The terrestrials and the everlasting ones finally arrive at their destination and the human professor admires the structure. Liù expresses her fear toward the castle's legend, but the other terrestrial students seem unbothered. The terrestrial and eternal students take a tour around the castle, first entering the Tapestry Hall, where the Duke's dragon tapestries hang. The human professor explains that each individual tapestry depicts a different dragon because the Duke of Gorth wanted his visitors to feel intimidated, which Gas interprets as a bad sign.

In the episode The Gorth Castle - Part 2, the students continue their tour and arrive at the Main Hall. The human professor explains that the hall is the largest room of the castle and that it has been referred to by historians as both the "Hall of Portraits" and the "Crystal Ballroom." Caterina points out the six portraits of the Duke's wives while Sara J points out that the "Crystal Ballroom" refers to the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, which are decorated with crystal drops. William adds that each crystal was a gift from the Duke to his bride at the time. Miki and Dolce proceed to admire the beauty of the crystals.

The ghost of the Duke appears and is visible to both, the humans and eternals, which the human professor initially interprets as a joke from the castle's tourist department. The professor then realizes that the ghost is real and the Duke uses his sword to bring the suits of armor that decorate the hall to life, ordering them to attack the humans and everlasting ones. While the angels and devils fight against the knights, Sulfus' clone (appearing as Dolce's crush, Alessandro) leads her through a hidden door that takes them down a corridor and into a secret room. The everlasting ones successfully defeat the knights and Raf confronts the Duke, telling him about the harm he has done his wives by keeping them imprisoned within the castle. The ghosts of each of the six wives emerge from their respective portraits and likewise confront the Duke. The Duke realizes his mistake, asks for their forgiveness, and all of the ghosts disappear. The angels and devils realize that Sulfus and Dolce have disappeared and Raf sets out to find them.

In Love and Hate - Part 1, just when Raf finds the secret room, Dolce is about to kiss Sulfus' clone when she realizes he is not Alessandro. Raf confronts Dolce and accuses her of wanting to kiss Sulfus, but Sulfus' clone lies, saying that he followed Dolce out of the Hall of Portraits because she was running away and he wanted to make her come back and fight. The angels and devils defend Dolce and Sulfus and Raf apologizes. The terrestrial and everlasting ones finally return to the Golden School.
